A celebration of material contrast and cultural craftsmanship, Zambia Large is a beautifully artisan-crafted stacking vessel that brings together mouth-blown Czech glass with a golden hand-woven Makenge basket from Zambia. The result is a sculptural object that feels both rooted and refined—a marriage of transparency and texture.
The delicate glass base, softly tinted and blown in Bohemia, is topped with a woven basket form, created using Makenge root—a resilient, sustainable fibre indigenous to Zambia.
For this special edition, we collaborate with a group of women artisans living in a Zambian refugee camp, working in partnership with MADE51, a UN initiative supporting refugee livelihoods through design-led craftsmanship.
Each component can be used separately—as a bowl, basket, or vase—or stacked to form a bold centerpiece.
Handcrafted with care across continents:
-
Czech Republic – Mouth-blown glass, made using traditional techniques for softness and clarity
-
Zambia – Makenge root basketry, hand-woven by refugee artisans with generations of weaving knowledge
All parts are then sent to our workshop in Northern Germany, where they are fitted and assembled by hand.
Zambia Large is more than a decorative piece—it is a story of resilience, tradition, and international collaboration.
